"Monster" by Killa J -- Mixtape Monday

Killa J

Killa J (born KJ Harkness) is a Georgia native, hailing from the city of Athens.  At the age of seven, Killa J began composing rhymes which allowed the groundwork formation for his later success. In 1999, Killa J relocated to the small town of Martinsville, Viginia where he attended Magne Vista High School. A year later, he produced his first full song--at the age of 10.

KJ currently attends Virginia Tech where he studies at the Pamplin College of Business. His debut mixtape4th and Inches, was released on April 20th, 2011. The mixtape to date has over 2,000 downloads and was featured on the front page of CurrentHipHop.com.
Recently, Killa J released the single "Monster", which has sky rocketed his buzz as well as career. "Monster" will be officially released as a mastered single on iTunes in June of 2011. To date, "Monster"  has over 5,000 downloads and 10,000 plays. He has been requested in numerous locations such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Myrtle Beach, New York City, and Miami for promotion of the single.
Killa J has a remarkable and tenacious work ethic. He strives to construct at least one song a day. With only 19 years of life, his potential to dominate the hip hop industry is becoming ever so obvious. KJ’s use of literary devices as well as his masterful
wordplay is inimitable in modern times.

SHUN WARD -- Two Tunes Tuesday

SHUN WARD

Christopher DeShun Ward was born on February 16, 1988 in Tyler, Texas. He is the only child to his mother Pamela Ward. Shortly after his birth, Shun’s mother relocated to Houston, TX.
At 3 years old his mother and great grandmother discovered that he loved to sing. He had an incredible voice and a talent for remembering church songs. At 5 years old he was invited to sing and travel with the New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church Choir. They performed at many churches around Houston. As they traveled, Shun became known and respected around the community for his strong voice and singing ability. At 7 years old his great grandmother (who was one of the church organizers) asked if he would like to become the lead singer of The New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church Choir. Of course, Shun was excited to take on the responsibility.
At 9 years old he started performing at talent shows around the north side of Houston. He would go on to win a youth choir competition at Forest Brook High School where he competed against 14-15 year olds.
At 14 years old Shun would compete at several different talent shows and started to experiment with writing and recording his own material. Unfortunately, as he honed his writing skills he would also become influenced by the streets. His grades declined terribly, he started smoking weed, and selling drugs. At 17 years old Shun and his mother moved to Nachadoces after his great grandmother passed away. Shun was distraught.
At 18 he joined a group called the Get Some.
At 19 he joined a group called Smash Click, where he helped write several songs.
At 21 he went to jail for a year. After he was released from jail he vowed to change his life and get back into the things that he loved most; singing, writing, and recording.
At 22 he asked his uncles for help in making his dreams come true. Together they formed GruvSoul and Shun Ward, the artist, a new star was born.

The two FREE songs we have for you are...
"Grown Man" & "Rollin"

PSA: Don't Talk in the Alamo Drafthouse -- Web Blog Wednesday

Apparently there is a strict policy against talking or texting in the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, Texas. If you are caught engaging in either you will be asked to leave and or removed, (kicked out).
A young girl was caught "using" her phone and was kicked out. As a result, the young girl called the theater and left a detailed message. The theater's retaliation to the message was to use the young girl as an example in a Public Service Announcement to future cinema audience members as expressed in this video below.

What are your thoughts about this whole matter. Do you believe the theater was right by mocking the young girl and making an example out of her or do you believe the theater was wrong for doing what they did?

Please leave your comments below and dont be shy in being descriptive.

There Are No Events -- Thirsty Thursday

Due to the disaster from the Tornado that struck several cities across Western Massachusetts yesterday, we will not be posting any events for this weekend. However, what we will be promoting is for anyone living in or near those neighborhoods and that are well and able to please participate in helping out your community in any way you possibly can. Whether its through volunteering with the Red Cross, homeless shelters, donating non perishables and or clothing. Or even like some other Good Samaritans that are cooking food and handing them out to families in need.

Remember, there is a hero in everyone of us.
